World Humanitarian Day

Despite living in the most technologically advanced era in human history, when communication avails news from across the globe almost as fast as it unfolds - making the world a smaller, more connected place - it seems, at times, we are more fragmented and disconnected than ever before.

Yes, our society provides a lot of good, but we can’t deny that as a whole there is still plenty we must do. As our world becomes a more unpredictable place, and crises everyday occurrences, many of us have can become desensitized to the widespread suffering caused by humanitarian crises across the globe.

And although technological innovations have improved crises management in all its stages (preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery), every year the size and complexity of the challenges faced by the humanitarian community are escalating. The number of people at risk is growing, especially as conflicts and long term crises rage across whole regions.

Technology has it’s place in life, but it’s usefulness is exceeded only by the complexity and imperfect frailties of our fickle nature. Now, more than ever, there is an urgent need to realize a greater sense of responsibility to each other and to address the deficit in humanity we face as a global community.

To that end, we salute the efforts of World Humanitarian Day - August 19th - a day to pay tribute to all people affected by humanitarian crises and those who lost their lives in humanitarian service. But more than that, while we should never forget the countless lives of those lost while serving neighbor, it’s a day to celebrate the spirit that inspires us to give, especially in humanitarian work around the world.

We invite all to support #ShareHumanity, to support the day. Share the hashtag and visit, a place where you can donate your social feed and find a collection of inspiring stories of those giving of themselves to help others.
